Surf lessons in Itacaré for all ages and levels

Meninas do Mar is an absolute gem in Itacaré. We spent two weeks with them, surfing every day, and our memories and experiences are all connected to this incredible team!

From the very first day, Jane and Zuqueto made us feel completely at home. They are the soul of this truly local family business, and their warmth, humour, and care shine through in every interaction. Their local crew is just as special – kind, patient, and genuinely invested in helping you progress and have fun in the water.

The hospitality goes way beyond what you’d expect from a surf school: thoughtful check-ins, little details remembered from day to day, local tips, and a feeling that you’re being looked after like friends, not just clients. At the same time, everything is run with extreme professionalism – clear instruction, strong focus on safety, and deep knowledge of the local waves and conditions.

Most of all, you can feel how passionate they are about surfing and about sharing the magic of Itacaré. They don’t just teach you how to stand up on a board; they create memories, build confidence, and share their love for the ocean and their home.

After two weeks with Meninas do Mar, we left not only as better surfers, but feeling like we’d been welcomed into a community. I took 6 surf lessons with Meninas, and honestly… I’ve never had an experience like this before!

Each session starts with stretching, followed by about 30 minutes of practice on the sand. You really learn the proper techniques to stand up, turn, and improve, and it makes all the difference once you’re in the water.

The instructors are extremely professional, attentive, and always make sure you’re progressing and giving your best.

Then we spend a full 2 hours in the water. The coaches build your confidence, support you between each wave, and sometimes a second instructor even joins us in the water to coach us while we’re riding waves, which is incredibly helpful!

All the sessions are filmed, and after each one, we watch the footage together to see what can be improved. It’s a huge plus for progressing quickly.

A huge thank you to Zuqueto for his outstanding lessons, professionalism, and incredible advice that helped me improve like never before.

Also, a big thanks to Lucas (“amigitooooooo”) who makes you feel completely at ease in the water, helps you on every wave, and shares great tips, we want “pizza con pepperoni por favor”!

Jane, Zuqueto e sua equipe são fora de série. Já é nosso segundo ano com eles e não há o que discutir, as meninas do mar são a melhor escola de surf de Itacaré. Além de uma equipe de instrutores excelentes, vc vai contar com os donos da escola ali perto de você te dando todo apoio que vc precisa para aprender ou evoluir no surf. Parece q em poucos dias você pula casas que eu não pulei em meses surfando em outros lugares. Mas o diferencial mesmo são as pessoas. Na escola você não só aprende sobre o surf, mas sobre um modo de vida que se importa com as pessoas e relações muito mais do que com os bens materiais. Obviamente a escola ajuda a sustentar várias famílias, mas a vibe, o carinho e o amor com que eles fazem isso faz toda diferença. As dicas de comida, as aulas de vídeo e o ambiente acolhedor e familiar fazem toda diferença. Jane e Zuqueto são muito respeitados e conhecidos na cidade além de pessoas muito legais de conhecer. A jane é fora de série total. Suas dicas de comida e recomendações no geral podem ser seguidas que sempre deram super certo e sem qualquer intenção lucrativa por trás de qualquer indicação. Recomendo profundamente e em breve estarei de volta.

I booked a few lessons with Jane and Zuqeto as a last minute decision to try surfing for the first time and ended up extending to 10 days because it was so much fun.

The school is super professional and pays attention to everyone. Every day the instructors warm us all up and go through techniques before getting in the water. I felt incredibly safe with all the instructors despite the conditions/waves on a few of the days being huge for me, they stayed calm and made sure we were all confident enough to catch some waveees.

After each session we got to chill on the beautiful beach and then get picked up and back for some detailed video analysis and feedback 🤓. Everyone in our group improved so much from just a couple of sessions which is a testament to the school ! The whole vibe of the school is also really welcoming 🩵💙

Thanks to Jane and Zuqeto I now love surfing which I never thought was possible. I already can't wait to to surf again and will miss this place so much.

I spent 6 days surfing with this school and absolutely loved it! Every day we went to Engenhoca Beach (south of Intercarré), took a small hike down to the Beach, and started with a good warm-up. I especially liked that the coaches tailored the exercises to our individual needs and goals – it really helped me progress and improve specific aspects of my surfing.

We spent about two hours in the water each day – intense but so much fun! The coaches paid great attention to everyone, gave useful feedback, and made sure we caught plenty of waves. Afterwards, we had some time to relax on the beach, grab some food (Açai or Tapioca – perfect post-surf snacks!), and then head back to Itacare.

One of the highlights was the video analysis sessions afterwards. Zuqueto did an amazing job showing where we improved and what to focus on next. It was so motivating and helpful to see the progress on video.

I can highly recommend this surf school, especially for intermediate surfers who really want to take their surfing to the next level. A fantastic experience all around! 🌊🏄‍♀️

First time in a few years of surf lessons that a teacher really explained very well and clear the technique of surfing!

I have had lessons in various countries (including the Netherlands and Indonesia) but never has explained someone the technique as Jane and her husband Zuqueto. Jane also explained more that there are differences between men and women. They also videotape you so you can see yourself and what you could improve.

To be a good surfer is one thing, but to be a good teacher is another. Both Jane and her husband really took the time and were very patient. They also took extra time for a student who had anxiety.

The lessons are really good value for money! You spend 2 hours in the water in small groups so there is a lot of personal attention. Travel time, practise on the beach is all extra time. Next to that; Jane is the best wave finder and as the ocean might be flat, she knows the waves will be coming and one lesson we surfed in an otherwise empty sea.

I think they are one of the best teachers ever and I would highly recommend them!!

It was a privilege to share our entire two weeks with, what started out as a recommendation for a surf school from a friend, that ended up feeling like part of their family. Jane and Zuqueto did so much more than show us how to get up on a surfboard and catch some waves. They welcomed us into their home and community. The laughs, smiles, hugs and high fives came from such a generous and genuine place in their hearts and souls.
On the board and in the water, their team was gentle, happy and always supportive and encouraging. Their instruction was tailored to everyone’s ability and level of competence and confidence. Whether wanting to learn the basics, get a little refresher, or just needing a little extra push to get you up and on the wave, Meninas Do Mar is definitely worth checking out.

The best surf school ever. My husband and I learned so much from Meninas. We have been surfing for about 5yrs but have taken very few lessons and felt like our progress had stagnated. Working with Meninas for 5 days accelerated us to the next level. Zuqueto is an amazing teacher, he truly wants you to learn and advance and encourages your progresses at whatever level you're at. The land exercises are all so creative and interesting and really helped in the water. And Jane, the co-owner is so so cool, so laid-back and open and welcoming and badass. Meninas do Mar Surf School is a family operation and it feels like they welcome you in to their family while you're taking lessons. Lessons are also on the most beautiful beach, and the boards are in excellent condition. We will be coming back to this surf school again because we know that we will be guaranteed to improve in 5 days. And because of the warmth of the whole crew there.

I was a complete beginner when I took my first surf class with Meninas Do Mar.
The complete experience was amazing.
The owners of the school, amazing people, and all the teachers are completely involved in the class with a real objective to transmit their knowledge and experience and to see the students progress quickly. As a matter of facts, we have been a lot of students to progress quickly and to be able to catch our own waves in a few days. In a few bullets points:
- Amazing teaching team
- Video analysis of each lesson with feedback
- A few students compared to the numbers of teachers
- Nice organization from transfer to equipment and a very nice surf spot
- A general amazing mood made of laugh, kindness and generosity, but always serious in terms of technical and security.
1000% recommended. For me, the best school of every outdoor sport I practiced.

Absolutely incredible surf school in Itacaré — the best! Fantastic instructors dedicated to student progression, with students divided into groups every day that focus on techniques adjusted to their skill levels. I highly recommend the 5-day course if you have the time; this school can also book up (for good reason!) so try to reserve ahead of time. The surf school is also wonderfully intensive — meet in Itacaré, shuttle to the beach, short hike (if the conditions are best at Engenhoca), stretching and a pre-surf workout, surfing, delicious time for açaí bowls or tapioca afterwards, hike back to the shuttle, and then video analysis in Itacaré. The video analysis and progressive approach to student skills were so helpful. Also the instructors — Jane, Zuqueto, Rafa, Luka, & Zaina (with Vinnie doing videography) were wonderful. Great people and a great time!! Thank you!!!

Hay muchas escuelas de surf en Itacaré y en el mundo, pero esta se destaca por su dedicación y atención de los alumnos para su constante evolución en un deporte que es complejo y lleva tiempo.
Tuve la suerte de volver varias veces a Brasil y elijo una y otra vez esta escuela, que se siente como una familia.
No tengo suficientes palabras para agradecer el trabajo que cada uno de ellos hace con tanta pasión, esta gente tiene la verdadera vibra Aloha que el alma del surfing tanto habla. Siempre me sentí super segura y acompañada en el agua, permitiendome sobrepasar mis límites y divertirme siempre.
Los entrenamientos fuera del agua son clave para entender los movimientos y personalizados. Las video correcciones me han ayudado mucho a entender mis errores.

I have quite some experiences with different surf schools and teachers and this one is just absolutely outstanding!! The teachers are amazing, very knowledgeable and do individualized beach practice as well as such helpful support in the water. I learned a lot of things no one has taught me before that helped me so much on my surfing journey. They are reliable, professional and I cannot recommend that school more. On top, the teachers and owners are such lovely people. We went daily with a van to a really nice beginner/intermediate spot and spent 2 hours in the water. The video analysis after the class is just absolutely helpful and amazing. Thank you so much for offering such incredible teaching, I hope you never stop, so I can always come back and improve more :)
